Beverly Pepper: Cleopatra's Wedge

About the Exhibition

Beverly Pepper (b.1924, New York City, NY) created Cleopatra’s Wedge in 1991. This 18 1/2-foot tall, rust-colored steel sculpture dramatically complements its lower Manhattan site. In color, mass and shape, Cleopatra’s Wedge exemplifies the perfect relationship between sculpture and its surrounding architecture, which here includes an adjacent building by noted architect César Pelli. James M. Clark, Executive Director of the Public Art Fund, describes the work as a “monolithic, abstract piece of great beauty and presence.”
