Megacleaners on Field of Storefront Blue Chairs

Megacleaners on Field of Storefront Blue Chairs

About the Exhibition

David Wells’ Megacleaners on Field of Storefront Blue Chairs consists of thirteen brightly painted plywood figures and twenty readymade blue chairs. The figures, suggestive of Millet’s harvesting women, are appropriate occupants for City Hall Park.

The Megacleaners were first installed on the Oberlin College green this spring, where they became a focal point for the entire community. In New York, variations on the figures have appeared throughout the city for the past several years and have undergone various transformations to suit each environment. Recently, during the excavation of a vacant lot in front of his house, Wells adorned the fence tops with a playful scenario of these figures.
