William Wegman: Fay and Charlie

About the Exhibition

William Wegman (b.1943, Holyoke, MA) has created ten touching and humorous transparencies depicting his favorite subject—dogs. Before being photographed, the two featured dogs in this series, Fay and Charlie, were painted yellow and red with temporary makeup-like paint, which washed off easily and did not harm the animals. The series conveys a continuing sense of compassion and humor about the special relationship between human and dog. Even though dogs have always asserted themselves as personalities, Wegman’s dogs tell us about ourselves and how we as humans look at dogs.
