Bowl with Folds

Bowl with Folds

About the Exhibition

Renowned for her meticulously carved, cut and layered cedar artworks, made using chisels and circular saws, Ursula von Rydingsvard (b.1942, Deensen, Germany) carves out expressive marks that make subtle references to the human figure, the landscape, and various domestic objects. These forms—evoking ordinary, household items such as bowls and farm tools—are recurring icons in von Rydingsvard's work and speak of her childhood memories of growing up in Germany during World War II. Bowl with Folds is the epitome of von Rydingsvard's style of larger-than-life, accumulative sculptures.
