Distant Party

Distant Party

About the Exhibition

At the corner of 10th Avenue and 15th Street, the sounds of clinking of glasses, chatter, and a mix of music from a nearby party are audible, but from where? Intangible but for these low-level sounds, Distant Party, a sound installation by Tony Matelli (b.1971, Chicago, IL), encourages listeners to wonder—where is the party? Who is there? What are people celebrating? And in turn, to reflect upon one's desire to be part of a larger group, and to be invited to "the party."
