Alice Adams: Globe

About the Exhibition

Alice Adams’s Globe was created as a special project installation for P.S.1 (Project Studios One), where it was on view earlier this year. The 15’ x 17’ piece, which was constructed employing mortise and tenon joinery, is made of oak beams, laminated Cyprus and pinewood. Adams (b.1930, New York City, NY) remarked that Globe derives from her interest in timber construction of the 16th-century. The title refers specifically to the Globe Theater in London, an example of such architecture, which housed Shakespeare’s company.
