Chelsea Market (88 10th Avenue)

At the corner of 10th Avenue and 15th Street, the sounds of clinking of glasses, chatter, and a mix of music from a nearby party were audible, but from where? Intangible, but for these low-level sounds, Distant Party, a sound installation by Tony Matelli, encouraged listeners to wonder -Where is the party? Who is there? What are people celebrating? And in turn, to reflect upon one's desire to be part of a larger group, and to be invited to "the party."

Artist Bio
Known for his hyper-real allegorical sculpture, Tony Matelli investigates the complexity of contemporary culture and calls into question societal mores so often taken for granted. He has had solo exhibitions at Basilico Fine Arts in New York and Ten in One Gallery in Chicago, as well as participated in group exhibitions at Magasin 3 Stockholm Konsthalle, Sweden, Claudia Gian Ferrari Arte Contemporanea in Milan, Italy, and Center for the Arts at Yerba Buena Gardens in San Francisco.
